Dental Fillings in Brampton
Fillings are required when a tooth has a cavity or to replace old broken or leaky fillings.
What is a Cavity?
Cavities occur when we do not maintain good oral hygiene after consuming foods rich in sugars and starches (candy, soda, milk, chips, fruits, fruit juices, cereals, bread, etc.). If teeth are not cleaned after eating, bacteria in the mouth will metabolize the food particles and release acid as a by-product. The combination of bacteria, food, acid and saliva forms a film called plaque (also known as tartar). The acid will attack the enamel of the tooth surface resulting in a cavity. If the cavity is not fixed in a timely manner, then it can become deeper and reach the nerve. At this point, there are only 2 options, either to extract the tooth or proceed with a root canal treatment.
Our office is a metal free facility; therefore, we do not do amalgam (mercury) fillings. We do white filling?, also known as Composite resins; composite resin restorations are made of glass and resin material. There are many advantages to composite resins; they look natural and are aesthetically pleasing. Composite resins also bond to the reaming tooth structure and provide strength and insulation for the tooth, leading to minimal post operative sensitivity and discomfort.
